may be easier to print this before you attempt to check/change settings |
Introduction and Explanation:
During March/April 2000, IOCC.com changed some settings on the
main server that affected all current users. Previously it was important
to have entered DNS Numbers (such as 204.214.235.2) to
connect to our service. Not only are these numbers no longer needed, but
the extra data hinders the dial-up process.
The current IOCC Setup CD still has these numbers embedded.
All new customers using the disc will have these incorrect DNS numbers
installed.
Windows 95/98/Me
Instructions:
1.
Open My Computer on the desktop
2. In My Computer, open Dial-Up Networking
3. In
Dial-Up Networking, click ONCE with the RIGHT mouse button
on your Internet connection
4. Click
on Properties from the drop-down list
5. You
will then see something similar to this image (shown below)

6. Click
on the Server Types tab at the top.
*with Windows Me "Server Types" is under
the Networking tab
7. Under
Server Types, click on the TCP/IP Settings button at
the bottom right (shown below)

8. TCP/IP
Settings will appear and you will see the image below:

9a. Make
sure your computer's settings to look EXACTLY the same shown above
9b. If Specify name server addresses
is selected, move the dot to the correct Server assigned
name server addresses option
10. When
finished making changes, press OK at the bottom
11. Press the OK button until
you've completely closed out of all of your connection's properties
You have now
successfully changed your DNS Settings
Try to connect to the Internet to make sure the new settings have
succeeded
A computer restart may be needed for the configuration to be saved
